Scott Laughead, General Music Teacher, 5B
Scott Laughead has been St. Stephen of Hungary’s Music teacher since 2011. I am thrilled at the opportunity bring music to students of all ages at St. Stephen and I appreciate the support and guidance I have received from the entire St. Stephen community. I have experience as a playwright, director, and arts educator and founding director of KEEP THE BEAT: Character Education through the Arts and the Artistic Director of the Yorkville Youth Athletic Association’s theatre program.
I work with the New York City Department of Education to create in-school and after-school residencies that motivate young people to succeed artistically, socially, and academically. In Duchess County I collaborate with fourth grade teachers in three schools in a curriculum-oriented theatre program that excites students about social studies by performing in plays about New York State. At Vail Farm Elementary School I facilitate a Poetry Video Project that gives fifth graders the opportunity to direct themselves in dramatized poetry vignettes. I have professionally produced plays for young audiences that have toured extensively throughout the United States.
I am a Level III Certified ORFF music instructor and holds a B.A. in theatre from Penn State and an M.A. in theatre from Hunter College. In 2004, I received the Ann Flagg Multicultural Award for services to diverse communities from the American Alliance for Theatre and Education. Additionally, I have served as a musical director and adjunct professor for Hunter College’s Department of Theatre Space. I live in New York City and am a member of Actors’ Equity and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
